Envision LCD at CompUSA

A few weeks ago Katherine and I were searching the internet for inexpensive flat screens. I had the opportunity to work on a 19" LCD for a few days and it made my powerbook so much more useable to have the extra screen space. Consequently, I started to look seriously for an LCD of my own. All the usuals were scoured - pricewatch, froogle, wal-mart and Sams, but I was surprised to find the best deal on LCDs seemed to be at CompUSA. After rebates and tax one could purchase a 17" Envision LCD for about $200. So I checked the CompUSA website to see where the screens were in stock. Unfortunately, the Cincinnati store at Tri-County was sold out and only the Dayton store still had them. Katherine and I then decided to wake early the next morning and drive up to Dayton to get a screen before her studio that Friday afternoon.
Once I was in the store, of course, I had some second thoughts about purchasing the monitor. The price of an LCD is still not small enough for me to spend without thinking, but I remembered how much easier things were with a nice, big screen and bought the LCD. Two days later I filled out and mailed the rebates to Envision and filled out CompUSA's online rebate form. These steps meant that I would be keeping the LCD as the manufacturer rebates require the barcode from the box. But it has been a few weeks now, and I am enjoying the new screen even now to write this article. I know there are deals out there and the price of flat screens is dropping. Generic monitors are not always the cheapest. Apple has very high quality displays, which I recommend above all others. Perhaps I trade this screen in for a little larger one when the time is right.
