The Bike Killer Strikes Again
Posted by: Brian Nieport @ 2006.02.26.2359
A few weeks ago, while I was inspecting my bike, I noticed that my rear Vento was busted. The rim was coming apart with a nice hole opening up. I was shocked when I discovered this, due to I didn't crash the wheel. This comes after recently replacing one of the spokes. Immediately after I went down to Reser Bicycle to order a new Vento rear wheel. A few days later the new wheel arrived at the shop. When I went down to the shop, I took the old wheel with me, and Reser believes the wheel broke due to too high of tension on the spokes. The new Vento was redesigned over the past year. Personally, I prefer the new design in terms of the silver rim over the black rim. Plus the graphics is an upgrade, too. Along with the new graphically stimulating design, the hub seems to have been improved too.
The busted wheel now goes on the long list of items I have busted either due to crashes or over use racing over the years. The list includes shifters, shifter bodies, 6 chains, spokes and 2 bottom brackets. Hopefully, I will start to slow down in the rate in which I break parts on my bike.
